Shetland is a UK Space Industry

The heart of Scotland, Shetland, is all set to be the success story of the UK space industry. The Minister of the UK Government, John Lamont, visited the Saxa Vord spaceport in Unst.

The spaceport, Saxa Vord, is on the way to launching its first satellites in 2023 as a part of the UK’s wide effort to hold up a share of global space and gain around £4 billion.

During his visit, the Minister mentions, “This is a huge opportunity for Shetland to be a world leader in terms of space technology deployment.” He further adds, “Saxa Vord is an exciting project with huge potential to create rewarding and skilled careers not only in Scotland but throughout the entire UK. It has a distinct geographical advantage that we intend to capitalize on.”

Scotland has already benefited from improved internet connectivity thanks to the assistance of the UK government. The Government is on track to advance these proposals to the next stage.
